“John Carter 2” picks up several years after the events of the first film, with John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) returning to Earth only to discover that something is terribly wrong on Barsoom (Mars). The film opens with Carter living a quiet life on Earth, haunted by visions of Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins) and the world he left behind. These visions reveal that Barsoom is facing a new threat, more dangerous than anything he encountered before.
Unable to resist the call of duty, Carter uses the medallion to transport himself back to Barsoom. Upon his arrival, he finds that the once-thriving cities are in ruins, and the red and green Martian factions are on the brink of extinction. A mysterious and powerful new enemy, the Zodangan Warlord Zurion, has emerged, wielding a previously unknown technology that drains the life force from Barsoom itself.
As Carter reunites with Dejah Thoris and Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe), they embark on a perilous journey to unite the warring tribes and uncover the source of Zurion’s power. They soon discover that Zurion’s technology is linked to the ancient Therns, who have returned to Barsoom with a hidden agenda to reclaim their dominance over the planet.
In a climactic battle, Carter leads a united Martian army against Zurion’s forces. The battle is fierce, and just when all seems lost, Carter sacrifices himself to destroy Zurion’s weapon, saving Barsoom. In a twist ending, Carter is seemingly killed, but in the final moments, he awakens in a strange, new world, hinting at a potential continuation of his adventures across the cosmos.
The film ends on a bittersweet note, with Dejah mourning her lost love, unaware that John Carter’s journey is far from over.
